Rechargeable table lamps are convenient during humid and rainy weather, but portable does not mean waterproof. The safest care routine starts by checking the manufacturer's exact water guidance and following it literally.
Understand the water wording
Waterproof, water-resistant and suitable for light rain are not interchangeable claims. An IP rating, when supplied, describes tested protection under specific conditions. If a product has no waterproof claim, do not assume it can be submerged, left outdoors or charged while wet.
After light rain exposure
- Switch the lamp off and bring it indoors.
- Wipe the exterior with a clean, soft cloth.
- Check seams, controls and the charging-port area for visible moisture.
- Let the lamp dry fully in a ventilated indoor place.
- Charge only when the lamp and charging port are completely dry.
Do not dip a rechargeable lamp in water to clean it. Avoid running water, pressure sprays and wet charging cables.
Cleaning during humid weather
Dust and fine residue can hold moisture against a surface. Use a dry or barely damp soft cloth, then dry the lamp immediately. Avoid harsh solvents unless the manufacturer specifically approves them, because they may affect finishes, plastics, adhesives or printed parts.
Protect the USB-C or charging port
The charging port deserves special attention because metal contacts and moisture are a poor combination. Keep the cable connector dry, inspect it before use and never force a plug into a port containing dirt or moisture.
If water has entered the port, stop using the lamp and follow the manufacturer's support instructions. Applying heat with a hair dryer can damage materials or push moisture further inside.
Storage between uses
- Store the lamp indoors in a dry, ventilated place.
- Do not leave it on an exposed balcony, terrace or café table overnight.
- Keep it away from standing water and leaking windows.
- Avoid trapping a damp lamp inside a closed box or bag.
- Use the supplied or approved charger and cable.
Battery care still matters
Humidity is only one factor. Excess heat, damaged cables and unsuitable chargers can also shorten battery life or create a safety risk. Follow the product's charging-time guidance and stop using it if the body, cable or connector is damaged.
For cafés and events
Create a simple closing routine: collect every lamp, count units, wipe tables, inspect ports, dry any exposed lamps, and charge them in a supervised indoor area. A written routine reduces the chance that one wet unit is placed directly on charge.

The practical rule
Rain exposure and water immersion are different. If a lamp is permitted in light rain but is not waterproof, keep exposure brief, never submerge it and never charge it until every part is fully dry.
